The number of crimes related to the internet has been increasing for years. Upper Austria is now the pioneer when it comes to fighting cybercrime. The “Krone” gained insight into the work of the IT detectives at the LKA.
For a long time, the Internet was considered a lawless zone. However, this has changed significantly in recent years as the World Wide Web has also become a playground for criminals and crooks. Current data shows that around eleven percent of criminal offenses in Austria can be attributed to cybercrime. The criminal investigation department of the state of Upper Austria has taken this into account and set up a cybercrime unit in a pilot project that is unique in Austria.
