While hiking in a gorge near Hermagor, a 65-year-old woman from the area fell so badly on Friday that she was unable to call for help herself.
Police say the woman was walking her dog on Friday when the accident happened. She fell into a stream bed and stayed there. Since no one found her until nightfall, she had to stay there all night.
It wasn’t until Saturday morning that a tourist found the hypothermic woman. The dog stayed with the 65-year-old all night. Emergency services were called around 9:00 a.m. Due to the difficult situation in the canyon, after the first emergency medical assistance, she could only be rescued by the ARA air rescue helicopter RK-1 using a cable winch and flown directly to the LKH Villach.
During the operation, the air rescue service, the Hermagor police, the Hermagor mountain rescue service and the Red Cross worked together perfectly.
