Although a farm was badly damaged by the devastating storm in the Gelände Valley, Carinthia, an inspector wanted to take a closer look at the animal population.
The grief for the beloved animals of the Pilsachhof in Arriach, who perished in the mudslide of the catastrophe of the century at the end of June, is still great. “As if it couldn’t get any worse, there was an AMA inspector on the farm two weeks ago who wanted to check the animal population,” reports Rita Gollner, shocked. Although the dead animals – large horses, two donkeys, a sheep, a pony and chickens – had been reported to the branch office of the Chamber of Agriculture of Villach.
Bizarre complaint
“We were almost in tears, the bureaucracy is destroying us. And then people object to the dung heap because it isn’t fenced in,” says Rita Gollner. “We’re glad we got most of it done with family and friends, you don’t think about the dung heap!”
AMA press spokesman Harald Waitschacher explains the circumstances: “The checks are carried out according to a certain schedule. In the case of Pilsachhof there was an extra waiting period of three months, but that had to be done in the interest of the farmer in order to be able to pay the subsidy this year.”
