The European Union has imposed sanctions on Iran for allegedly supplying so-called kamikaze drones to Russia.
According to the Czech presidency of the Council, member states agreed on Thursday to freeze the assets of three people and an entity that would be responsible for the supplies. Iran has so far officially denied supplying drones to Russia.
Ukrainian head of state Zelenskyi also commented on the drones in his latest video speech. “The Russian state is bankrupt,” he said on TV (see video above). Russia asking Iran for support would prove it.
Russia denies using Iranian drones
The controversial use of Iranian kamikaze drones in Ukraine was discussed at the UN Security Council on Wednesday evening (local time). Russian Representative Dmitri Polyansky dismissed the reports as “baseless accusations and conspiracy theories”. Only drones made in Russia are used. “I would advise you not to underestimate the technological capabilities of the Russian drone industry,” he said. At the same time, he threatened to end cooperation with the United Nations if there was a UN inspection of the drones.
