A kidnapping of two children on New Year’s Eve in Denmark made headlines – not least because of its prominent mother, German millionaire Christina Block. The kidnappers had beaten her ex-husband and forced the children into a rental car. Police have now announced that the 13-year-old and the ten-year-old are believed to be with the steakhouse heiress.
Shortly after midnight, the kidnappers struck in the Danish town of Gravenstein, which has a population of 4,000. While Stephan Hensel, Christina Block’s ex-husband, was celebrating New Year’s Eve with the children at a restaurant, several men attacked the father and forced the children to come along. The rental cars in which the perpetrators fled were registered in Germany. The Danish investigators launched a manhunt and also asked the German police for help.
Children are no longer handed over to their mother after holidays
There has been a dispute between the former couple over the custody of their children for years. In 2021, Hensel did not return daughter Klara (13) and son Theodor (10) to their mother. The eldest child, Johanna (17), would voluntarily go to live with her father. The 15-year-old daughter Greta lives with her mother in Hamburg.
But after the violent kidnapping, the two children are reportedly doing well. There is “no concrete evidence that there is any danger to the children,” police said. Accordingly, the children must be “under the care of their mother.”
The director in Hamburg is now trying to contact Christina Block to get an idea of the situation on the ground and to rule out a classic kidnapping with ransom demand. She doesn’t have to worry about the millionaire’s officials taking her children away again: the entrepreneur has custody of Klara and Theodor.
