Among other things, the extension of the working time by one hour for the written Matura, the alternative dates in case of prevention and the possible limitation of the areas of expertise for the oral AHS Matura are no longer applicable. On the other hand, the inclusion of the annual figures in the Matura figures is maintained, according to information sent to the schools.
“Back to normalcy with new strength: that also applies to school,” emphasizes Education Minister Martin Polaschek (ÖVP). “For the Matura or the final exam, we are going back to normality this school year.” The schools were informed of the regulations on Friday afternoon.
In the past three school years, there have been many changes in the Matura due to the coronavirus. Many of these, such as the only voluntary oral Matura, the limitation to a maximum of three written exams or the only voluntary presentation of pre-scientific work or diploma theses have already been abolished this year or last year. This is followed by longer working hours for the written exam, the alternative date scheme, the possible reduction of the courses in the oral AHS-Matura by a maximum of one third and the extension of the submission period for the pre-scientific papers.
Some temporary changes remain
“However, some originally temporary changes have proven their worth and will therefore become the rule,” says Polaschek. “For example, we continue to calculate the annual figure in the Matura figure to get a global and not just a selective picture of last year’s performance.” The written Matura mark in a subject consists of equal parts of the examination mark and the annual mark of the last year. If you are exactly between two numbers, the exam score “pricks”. Exception: If less than 30 percent of the possible points are achieved in the Matura, it automatically receives a five, regardless of the annual grade. A similar calculation rule applies to the oral Matura.
The reduction of the examination boards and the (corona-independent) changes in the assessment of written mathematics Matura at the AHS will also be maintained.
