Heat an entire room with a few tea lights, clay pots and a threaded rod. Especially in times like these, this heating method sounds very appealing to many. The so-called tea light oven can be manufactured quickly and costs a maximum of 30 euros.

But the dream of a cheap gas alternative, which is spreading like wildfire thanks to social media, is extinguishing at least as quickly as the candle itself. In fact, tinkering can even become a serious danger.

The fire brigade warns about this. If you leave too little space between the tea lights, you increase the chance of wax burning. This quickly turns the oven into a fireball. Since this is similar to a grease fire, even reaching for water won’t help. On the contrary: there will be an explosion!
Not lucrative either
In addition, a tea light oven is not a lucrative alternative for financial reasons. Firstly, because the construction with clay pots offers no advantages over freestanding tea lights. And second, because it is still more expensive than conventional heating methods, despite huge energy prices.
