Death of Mateschitz – He decides on the Red Bull successor

Date:

Who will and can replace Dietrich Mateschitz at Red Bull after his death? The decision is not made in Austria, but in Thailand.

As the business magazine “Trend” reported the day after the death of legendary Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, citing an insider, his successor needs the sanctuary of the Thai industrialist family Yoovidhya.

majority of the clan leader
The reason: Mateschitz did not own the majority, but 49 percent of the shares in the mega-corporation. The Yoovidyha family also owns 49 percent of the energy drink company, with the remaining two percent personally owned by clan leader Chalerm Yoovidhya.

External administrator?
According to the report, this means he has a decisive role in determining the successor at the helm of the group. This results in the scenario that an outside CEO or a manager of the Yoovidhyas entrepreneur can take over.

During a business trip, Mateschitz became acquainted with the Asian energy drink “Krating Daeng”, or “Red Bull” in English, acquired the licensing rights and founded the company in the mid-80s together with the Thai manufacturer family Yoovidhya.

Is there a logical successor?
There is doubt that Mark Mateschitz, the son of the Red Bull founder, could take over his role. At least not right away.

Although the 30-year-old has held small management positions in recent years, most recently as director of Thalheimer Heilwasser, he has not yet held positions in Red Bull’s core business.

The extremely media-shy Mark Mateschitz was born Mark Gerhardter in 1993 and comes from a two-year relationship between Dietrich Mateschitz and the former ski instructor Anita Gerhardter. She is the CEO of “Wings for Life”, to which Mark Mateschitz has belonged since early 2022.

Chalerm Yoovidhya’s son is out of the question anyway. He has been on the run from police since he killed a Ferrari in Bangkok in 2012.
