“I was afraid” – Leonie case: Second suspect changes his statement

Date:

After an interruption – due to illness of the chairman of the court – the trial against the deceased 13-year-old Leonie continues today. The three accused Afghans were interrogated in the first days of the hearing, almost a month ago. Experts have also been heard. More witnesses will testify on Monday.

The suspects were initially asked if they wanted to change anything in their statements. And the second defendant actually wanted that too: “I should have said that earlier, but I was afraid.”

He allegedly had consensual sex with Leonie. The 19-year-old has always vehemently denied that. Although there was clear DNA evidence to suggest that. “I was ashamed of it,” said the accused Afghan.

The second defendant initially pleaded guilty. However, he does not want to take responsibility for the 13-year-old’s death. According to the indictment, the three Afghans drugged, raped and left Leonie dead against a tree. According to the expert, the dose of ecstasy tablets she was given was fatal.
