Carlos III formalizes Rishi Sunak as the new British Prime Minister

Date:

The conservative leader will soon appoint his cabinet, while his predecessor, Liz Truss, wishes him “good luck for the good of the country”.

British Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak received the formal order from King Charles III to become the new Prime Minister this morning. In a ceremonial act concluded a few minutes ago, the former minister, recently elected by the ‘tories’ in an express election process, spoke briefly with the monarch after the official greeting. Sunak has become the country’s youngest prime minister in the past two centuries. Anecdotally, he is also the country’s second head of government during the short reign of Carlos III. His predecessor, Liz Truss, received Elizabeth II’s protocol commission just two days before the Queen’s death.

Precisely, before going to the palace, Sunak chaired the last session of his cabinet and then offered a farewell press conference for Number 10 Downing Street. In this speech, he wished his successor “all success for the good of our country”.

The new Prime Minister promised on Monday that his goal is to bring “stability and unity” to the UK after the deep political crisis it has been experiencing over the past two months, following the departure of Boris Johnson, rejected by much of the the Conservatives because of the ‘Partygate’ scandals and their official management. Truss has only been in office for 45 days, making her a short-lived British Prime Minister. Meanwhile, thanks to Sunak’s swift election, Conservatives have saved themselves the trouble of perhaps calling elections, as the Labor opposition demanded. New ‘tory’ leader has shown strong willingness to “unite the party”

At this point, the fifth British Prime Minister in six years has already started naming his government team. And on Wednesday he will appear in the House of Representatives to answer his first question session to the ‘Prime Minister’. He could be joined by Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who was appointed by Truss 11 days ago, if the new head of government decides today to keep him in office to stabilize markets.
