Large-scale operation for the fire brigade Tuesday night in the Tyrolean Telfs (Innsbruck-Land district): A fire broke out in the roof truss section of a residential building, probably as a result of a technical defect. A neighbor immediately ran to the property and warned the resident (54) on the ground floor. The two men then broke open the front door of the parents’ first-floor apartment and rescued the elderly couple.
The German neighbor discovered the fire just before 2.30 am. “The man immediately ran to the house, banged on the front door and drew attention to himself by shouting loudly. This allowed him to wake up and warn the resident of the ground floor,” police said. While the 54-year-old Amsterdammer tried to reach his parents, who lived on the first floor, the German made the emergency call.

The two men then rushed to the parents’ separate entrance. “Since it was locked, they smashed the glass on the door and entered the apartment,” the investigators continued. Together, the men were finally able to bring the elderly couple (79 and 81 years old) outside.
The Austrian’s father tried to control the flames near the balcony with a hand fire extinguisher – but without success. The couple was eventually taken by ambulance to the hospital in Hall in Tirol. According to initial reports, they suffered minor injuries.
Technical defect as the cause
Significant damage was done to the building. According to the current status of the investigation, it can be assumed that a technical defect is the cause of the fire. About 100 Floriani disciples with 16 vehicles, ambulance and police were deployed.
