Nehammer with Putin – Kickl criticizes ‘macho self-portrait’

Date:

If the words of liberal club boss Herbert Kickl before the chancellor’s trip to Vladimir Putin were more forgiving, he did not spare criticism on Tuesday. The trip served “only for his macho self-portrait and distraction from the ÖVP’s infamous domestic political disasters,” Kickl said in a broadcast.

It appears that Nehammer was “remotely controlled from the Ukraine” and not self-determined, Kickl agreed on completely different tones than Monday. At the time, he said the chancellor’s attempt at mediation was “applauded”.

“Has not done the Republic a good service”
Nehammer’s statement, according to which he would not have gone to Moscow if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had objected, was “a bankruptcy declaration by neutral Austria”, according to the head of the traditionally pro-Russian Blue Party. “With this he has again done the Republic a disservice, because he is taking away Austrian sovereignty ad absurdum.”

Kickl missed words about possible peace negotiations or the future of energy supplies, instead Nehammer only delivered a “transfiguration of his own appearance with empty words”.

Green still silent
The Greens, who clearly learned through the media of the coalition partner’s travel plans to attack Putin, are still extremely cautious. After the meeting between Nehammer and Putin, the chancellor informed the chancellor “without delay”, it said on Tuesday at the request of the APA of the office of vice chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens).

NEOS for Enforcing Sanctions
The NEOS had already criticized on Twitter Monday evening after the meeting that Nehammer said he had told Putin “that sanctions against Russia will remain in place and will be further tightened as long as people die in Ukraine”.

Instead, the sanctions should “stay in effect until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored,” NEOS chief Beate Meinl-Reisinger said. “Everything else invites Putin to take further steps.”
