Dutch climate activist Jelle de Graaf was invited on TV to speak about the controversial protests. The talk show discussed whether you really should stick to things and pour soup on paintings. Activist’s response: During the broadcast, he clung to the table.
Jelle de Graaf, climate activist from the Extinction Rebellion group, stuck himself at the table during a program on Dutch television. The incident happened on Tuesday evening in the RTL talk show “Jinek”.
“Not very handsome and civilized”
The current actions of “Stop Oil Now” were just being discussed when the man sat down on the table and taped his hands. “I’m stuck here during a live show and I’m going to talk about the climate and the ecological crisis,” said de Graaf. “You have a duty to report honestly on the climate and environmental crisis. A duty that you do not fulfill. Our whole lives are at stake,” he accused the moderator.
The moderator initially continued the conversation with de Graaf, explaining to him that he found the action “not very sympathetic and civilized”. The other guests couldn’t have their say.
Activist and table removed
During a commercial break, the TV team finally had enough and de Graaf was led away with the table (see video). When the porters then try to tilt the table, the glue comes off the activist’s hands, causing him to fall down, reports the news channel nau.ch.
“He’s fine. He’s behind the scenes and now attached to my dressing room,” the presenter joked after the commercial break.
Potato soup, tomato sauce and gluten
Actually, the Extinction Reberllion activist was invited to the show to talk about the recent protests. Only recently did climate activists smear artworks in museums with potato soup or tomato sauce to draw attention to the crisis. During the actions, a painting by Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet was smeared.
The wax figure of King Charles was smeared with cake at Madame Tussauds in London on Monday. The activists are also often stuck on the highways.
