After the collapse of a bar terrace in Mallorca that left four dead, the city’s inspection report is available. Engineers rate construction violations at Medusa Beach Club as serious (see video above).
Investigative sources have confirmed to Italian media that the two owners of the restaurant are charged with four counts of negligent homicide and serious injuries to sixteen people. The experts are convinced that the terrace, the illegality of which has already been confirmed, collapsed due to overload. In fact, the part of the restaurant was already classified as inaccessible during a technical building inspection in 2017.
Used to be a Mexican restaurant
In 2018, the two Austrian bar owners, siblings Christian and Sandra A., opened a Mexican restaurant called Tex Mex. But in 2021 they decided to change the concept and started the Medusa Beach Club. In addition, they may have ignored or failed to correct previous structural violations and expanded the restaurant with a terrace.
Dispute over millions in compensation
A neighbor of the restaurant also reported to authorities that a pillar between two connected terraces had been removed. The allegation is currently still under investigation. What is certain is that there will also be a battle between the insurance companies and the owners, in which millions in damages will have to be paid.
