Second Deputy Lehendakari and Minister of Labor and Employment, Idoia Mendia, assured today that the future Basque labor law “will arrange decent and quality work for the first time”, and it will serve to address “the biggest challenge we face as a society in terms of equality and competitiveness”.
Mendia held a meeting with the media today in Bilbao to advance the first draft of the Basque Labor Law, a document that will be presented to the public from today and for a period of one month. public accusations and that, after passing the rest of the mandatory reports, it will be taken to the Basque Parliament to continue processing.

The Basque Labor Law will allow the department it heads to “lead the space for agreement between all institutional, social and societal actors”, in addition to defining Lanbide’s central role as a public employment service. “All the strategies we need to design and implement will run on Lanbide,” he said.
Second Deputy Lehendakari has insisted that “we are no longer just going to talk about having a secure, well-paid and indefinite job. A quality job will have a lot to do with training, updating professional skills and competences to know how adapt to change, and that adaptability cannot be just for those who can afford it”.
Mendia recalled that it has been ten years since an active employment policy, a period during which Lanbide’s Public Employment Service was established and in which other institutions and agents also intervene, despite the fact that the main competence in this case belongs to the to the Basque government.
