Now in basic care – 16 refugees can leave asylum tents in Tyrol

Date:

Apparently a first emergency solution was found in the case of asylum tents in the Tyrolean Absam (Innsbruck-Land district). The 16 refugees housed there will be transferred to the country’s primary care facility on Thursday. The tents had recently caused a lot of excitement in the community – the mayor spoke of a “black building” and demanded that it be dismantled within three days.

The 16 young men from Syria, Somalia and Turkey can now leave the tents set up by the Federal Agency for Care and Support (BBU) on the grounds of the police academy. The people must now be taken to Kufstein. Absam’s mayor Manfred Schafferer and Tyrol’s LHStv. Georg Dornauer (SPÖ) confirmed a relevant “Kurier” report to the APA.

Will the tents be torn down now?
Dornauer, who is responsible for the refugee agendas in the black-and-red state government, announced on Wednesday that he would provide alternative housing for the asylum seekers. He also wants the tents to be torn down. The SPÖ politician is in contact with Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP). One is in “good cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of the Interior”, says the SP boss of Tyrol. It is still unclear whether the tents will actually be demolished. In any case, Dornauer wanted to prevent new arrivals ‘the next day’ after the 16 asylum seekers had left.

The municipality of Absam on Tuesday made a decision against setting up tents for refugees and asylum seekers. According to the question, these should be broken down within three days. It is a “black building” because it failed to submit a construction report. It was emphasized that appeals against the decision do not have suspensive effect.

However, the BBU has so far assumed that setting up the tents is not a structural measure and that the Tyrolean building regulations cannot be applied. The agency said Thursday the decision was being checked. The tents can accommodate approximately 100 people.

Hoping for a “humanitarian solution”
He hopes for a “humanitarian solution,” local boss Schafferer emphasized, referring to the cold winter months. However, he would not explain what steps he would take if the tents were not torn down, contrary to his request. However, he appealed to the BBU to dismantle the tents. “We’re making a fool of ourselves in front of the whole world,” Schafferer said.

Meanwhile, he saw himself well supported in the country. Those responsible would try to provide “permanent housing,” Schafferer said. In view of the “very difficult task” of providing suitable housing for refugees, “everyone must work together – regardless of political affiliation”.
