A family of five in Linz-Margarethen contracted carbon monoxide poisoning on Thursday morning. All family members were immediately taken to hospital. The youngest victim was only three years old, the oldest 64.
The fire brigade, the Red Cross and the police moved to Linz-Margarethen around 9:05 a.m. Thursday when a 32-year-old Afghan citizen showed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Warm charcoal grill as the cause
The Linz professional fire brigade searched the entire building. A charcoal grill still warm, discovered in the basement, is believed to be the cause. The family, five people between the ages of three and 64, was taken to the Sisters of Mercy Hospital as a precaution.
