In Feldkirch (Vorarlberg) a burglar was caught red-handed on Wednesday evening: The man was able to escape, but not for long, because police dog Safira was hot on his heels.
Early Wednesday morning, around 1:30 a.m., residents of a single-family home in Feldkirch noticed a burglar walking through their home. Alerted by the homeowners, the perpetrator fled into a neighboring forest.
The police were immediately notified and immediately started looking for the thieves. The police systematically searched the forest – they were supported by their four-legged colleague Safira.
She quickly got the right nose and picked up the path through the dark and dense forest. Determinedly she followed the scent trail over a distance of 750 meters. Until after eleven minutes she tracked down the burglar behind a tree and caught him. The 21-year-old was hiding there. The arrest followed.
During the forensic investigation it was discovered that the 21-year-old had broken into another house in the neighborhood. The Moldavian had stolen some cash and electrical appliances from the houses. Thanks to the meticulous work of the forensic investigators, it has also been proven since July of this year that the man had broken into several cabins and vehicles. He was taken to Feldkirch prison.
