Moment of terror during a family boat trip on the Attersee near Schörfling (Upper Austria). A motionless man was floating in the water. The father of the family saved the swimmer, but there was no rescue for the 73-year-old Regauer.
The parents and their ten-year-old son actually just wanted to enjoy the sunset at the lake and left around 9 p.m. They discovered a body floating in the water in the harbor of Schörfling.
The father of the family jumped into the water, saved the lifeless man and started resuscitation measures on the jetty. But there was no way to save him – the man was dead.
Autopsy ordered
Police investigations revealed that the 73-year-old Regauer had gone to the Attersee alone for a day of swimming. As a result, no one knew when he entered the water and when the swimming accident probably occurred. An autopsy will reveal whether the 73-year-old drowned or whether he suffered an acute illness, such as a heart attack, while swimming.
