The next attack by climate activists took place in the Mauritshuis in the Netherlands. The target this time was the world famous painting “The Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer. One of the men stuck his head to the protective glass of the painting. The three activists have been arrested in The Hague, according to the police.
In a video circulating on Twitter, two men can be seen near the painting. One sticks one’s head against the glass in front of the painting and is doused with a red liquid. The other man had his hand taped to the wall next to the photo (see video below).
The painting was not damaged during the action, the police reported on Twitter. Some rooms of the museum are closed.
series of attacks
Museums in several countries have recently been rocked by similar attacks on works of art. Protesters threw food at famous paintings or stuck to the frames or walls. The artworks themselves have not been damaged so far. With their actions, the activists want to draw attention to climate change and push for more decisive action.
