The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, today announced a new OPE with 4,000 places in education. This new call is added to the 3,000 announced at the end of September, bringing a total of 7,000 vacancies to be tendered during this course.

Iñigo Urkullu has made this announcement in response to a question from Elkarrekin Podemos-IU in the plenary session of the Basque Parliament about the measures taken by the Basque government to guarantee “the essential character” of the Basque public school.

The spokesman of Elkarrekin Podemos-IU in the Basque Parliament, Miren Gorrotxategi, has asked the Basque government for a “change of direction” and for the future law to include “mechanisms” so that the public school is the “backbone” of the system.

Lehendakari Urkullu has assured that “the essential character of public schools is guaranteed” by the future Basque education law, “by the agreements reached with the trade unions, by the 2023 budgets and by the government’s 43 commitments”. In this sense, he recalls that the Ministry of Education appears quarterly in the Education Pact Monitoring Committee to account for the progress of these 43 commitments.

Likewise, he recalled that “the commitment to the Basque public school is in the government’s program”, so “it is beyond any doubt” and recalled that on May 26 the government signed an agreement with the majority unions to “delete the Basque public network”.

In addition, he emphasized that this course “reinforced public centers” with 723 more professionals than the previous course.
