According to the INE, the moderation in the year-on-year CPI to 7.3% is mainly due to the decline in electricity prices and to a lesser extent to lower gas prices.

Core inflation remains at 6.2%

The estimated annual rate of variation of core inflation (general index excluding unprocessed foods and energy products) remains at 6.2%.

Core inflation in August reached its highest level since January 1993 (6.4%).

In the month of October, the estimated annual percentage variation of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (IPCA) was 7.3%, more than one and a half points lower than the previous month. For its part, the estimated monthly variation of the IPCA was 0.1%.
