Unmanned drones at sea – Ukraine shows video of Sevastopol aanval attack

Date:

Just hours after the attack on the Russian Black Sea port in Sevastopol, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry released images of unmanned naval drones heading for Russian warships. How successful they were is still unclear.

Several Ukrainian drone strikes were recorded on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula in the Bay of Sevastopol last weekend. The situation is still unclear at the moment, reports of damage vary. It is currently very controversial whether the new flagship “Makarov” (she is the successor of the sunken “Moskva”) has been damaged.

Only minesweeper damaged?
However, the Russian side only confirmed that the mine clearance vessel “Ivan Golubez” and also installations in a bay were slightly damaged, the Defense Ministry in Moscow announced on Saturday. The attacks were led by British specialists in Ukraine.

From the air and from the sea
According to reports, it involved an attack with drones from the air, as well as self-propelled small boats loaded with explosives. “We remain calm. The situation is under control,” the Russian side said on Saturday. Videos of numerous burning objects, which are said to be fuel tanks or Russian ships, are circulating on the internet. Just to be safe, ferry traffic in the bay has been temporarily suspended.

Sevastopol important as the base of the Black Sea fleet
Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it will take back Crimea, which Russia has occupied since 2014. Sevastopol, in particular, as home to the infamous Black Sea Fleet, is considered extremely important to Russia’s strategic interests. Drones have been shot down there for months.
