The temporary staff was called upon to support a four-hour strike (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) to demand a “guarantee consolidation process” for the 4,500 workers.
The four hour break (between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) convened by the ELA union between the casual staff who works in the Basque government and in its autonomous bodies (Osalan, Lanbide and Ibaiondo), has a “extended follow”, as highlighted by the union in a note. For its part, the Basque government has not provided any follow-up data.
Temporary workers gathered at 12 noon in front of the Basque government headquarters in Lakua (Vitoria-Gasteiz) to request a “guarantee consolidation process” for the 4,500 employees who are not in permanent employment.
The trade union ELA has denounced the “dramatic” employment situation in the autonomous administration, where “57% of the staff are temporary and almost 80% have more than 3 years of seniority”.
He accuses the Basque government of making employment insecure and betting on privatization of this area, since in the categories with more workers, the last call for OPE “was held more than 20 years ago and the average age of these workers is more than 55 year”.
To end this situation, ELA claims one exceptional process of 4,500 places consolidating temporary staff, where experience is key, stabilizing those who have changed positions on behalf of services to fill the positions they do not hold, and establishing the law of bodies and scales after the consolidation processes.
ELA has denounced in a statement that the Basque government plans to launch two job interviews, “but there are at least 900 places missing”, and believes that it does not propose any guarantee procedures, as it institutes qualification exams without the experience is decisive.
