Wedding party – shots were fired from a gas pistol before the accident in Graz

Date:

In a sensational accident in central Graz on Saturday, a 22-year-old struck a 53-year-old passer-by in front of the opera café, seriously injuring her. Witnesses also heard shots fired earlier. Police have now revealed that these came from a gas pistol and were fired from a car window during the wedding convoy ride.

There was a riot in front of the Graz Opera Café on Saturday afternoon: a black car had crashed into a tree near the guest garden and caught a 53-year-old passer-by from Vorarlberg visiting Graas on the sidewalk.

Passerby suffered a broken leg
The woman suffered a broken leg, the 22-year-old driver was uninjured. He was part of a Chechen wedding party.

The next part of the convoy wanted to catch up
According to police spokesman Christof Grill, multiple witnesses reported that part of the convoy exiting the opera house was still passing the green flashing traffic light, “the rest stopped at the red traffic light. When it turned green, the cars accelerated quickly.” Shortly after, there was a crash and a driver may have lost control of his car due to the increased speed.

Shot from the car window with a gas pistol
Many were also confused because shots were reported before the accident. Where did these come from? On Saturday, the police still assumed fireworks, according to Grill on Sunday the facts were clear: “It was a gas pistol. It was shot into the air from a car window.” This resulted in a loud bang.In addition to hearing damage, the weapon itself can only cause direct damage in close proximity to people.

So it was not an attack, but a traffic accident with personal injury. “The alcohol test was also negative,” adds the police spokesman.
