In Poland, a 25-year-old stole a tram and drove it through the city of Katowice. According to police information, the man had never driven a tram and could not name a motive for his actions.
On his journey, the Pole left several unsuspecting passengers on board, the TV news channel TVN 24 reported on Sunday evening. The train was too slow and ran as “Line 33”, which doesn’t even exist in Katowice.
A tram driver noticed this and the coordinator was notified. She tried in vain to reach the man by radio and then alerted the police. Finally, the power supply on the route is turned off for a short time to interrupt the journey.
The 25-year-old was arrested without resistance. He was not under the influence of alcohol and at first could not say why he had stolen the tram. It is also only partially clear how the set disappeared from its depot on Saturday night.
Case in Vienna 2017
The case is reminiscent of a stolen tram in Vienna in January 2017, where the driver has a driver’s license in this country. The former employee of Wiener Linien stole the tram from line 60 when the driver had gone to the toilet at Rodaun station. The man was drunk after a party and got off with a fine.
