The South Korean military has stated that “it will respond resolutely”. These latest launches have increased the tension already existing on the peninsula.

For the first time since the division of the Korean peninsula, a North Korean ballistic missile has crashed into South Korean territorial waters today. Seoul has described this action as “absolutely unacceptable” and has argued that the military “will respond resolutely”.
South Korea initially detected the launch of three short-range ballistic missiles fired from North Korea’s east coast into the Sea of Japan. One of them landed in the Baltic Sea (the name given to the Sea of Japan in the two Koreas), 57 kilometers east of the coastal city of Sokcho (160 kilometers northeast of Seoul) and 167 kilometers northwest of Ulleung Island. Shortly thereafter, the military reported that North Korea fired 10 different types of missiles today.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) after the launches, and at the end assured a swift response and urged “prepare for more provocations” from the regime by Kim Jong Un.
East launchthe number 36 that North Korea is doing this year (a record number), coincides with the celebration of the first large-scale aerial maneuvers by the Air Forces of the South and the United States.
Tension in the peninsula has increased in recent months, given continued launches from the north, Allied maneuvers and the possibility that Pyongyang will conduct its first nuclear test in five years, as the satellites indicate.
