“Almost dead!” – 21-year-old almost beaten to death in the middle of Krems

How safe is Krems city center? Before the municipal elections in September, hardly a single question was raised more often. Due to a recent incident, the discussion has now flared up again. A 21-year-old man from Weinzierl am Walde in Lower Austria was nearly beaten to death in the middle of the old town on Saturday evening.

Porter tried to help
After an argument between the man and his later tormentors in a bar on Hoher Markt, the 21-year-old ran off towards Pfarrplatz. A bouncer may have gained the victim more time by holding back the three perpetrators who were chasing him for as long as possible. The crooks eventually caught up with their victim on Margarethenstraße.

Lying on the ground, the man from the Waldviertel was beaten and kicked by the trio. Only when a witness intervened did the crooks move on. “If no one had helped me, I would have been dead,” the victim told his girlfriend at Krems hospital on Saturday morning.

Video should provide information
The 21-year-old suffered fractures to the eye socket, a fractured cheekbone and jaw injuries. The police investigation is in full swing. The video from a camera near the crime scene, on which the perpetrators should be very clearly visible according to “Krone” information, could provide information. In any case, Martin Zöhrer, designated Security Council member of the FPÖ, is already demanding: “This case shows once again that video surveillance can be useful within the scope of its possibilities.” Unfortunately, the need seems to exist.
