The appearance of Thomas Schmid in the corruption investigation committee of the ÖVP is eagerly awaited on Thursday. With the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance and ex-ÖBAG boss, there is a central figure in several cases, triggered by his chats secured by the prosecutor’s office from economic and corruption. There was prior consultation about a consultation agreement sought by the WKStA in order not to jeopardize the ongoing investigations. Only the ÖVP did not agree to the limitation of the research subjects.
Sobotka stays away
A lawsuit from the Ministry of Justice at the Constitutional Court must now ensure that only the lines of inquiry desired by the WKStA can be covered. The second president of the National Council, Doris Bures (SPÖ), who presides on Thursday, must decide whether the questions are admissible. The first chairman of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP), who is himself being indicted by Schmid, is traveling abroad and is therefore represented.
After Schmid, the former chief of staff of ex-chancellor Werner Faymann (SPÖ), Nicole Bayer, comes to the subcommittee in the afternoon as a source of information. The ÖVP is responsible for charging.
