In Bruck an der Mur there was an extra traffic obstruction around the Murinsel on Thursday morning. The reason for this was curious.
It was actually a routine job: a semi-trailer was to deliver the new wheel bridge just after 9.00 on Thursday. The metal structure, 33 meters long and three meters wide, will connect the Brucker Murinsel with the “mainland” in the future.
Crane lifted bridge around the bend
In the vicinity of the E-Werk Hügel and Knottingerstraße, the semi-trailer wanted to reverse onto the Murinsel. But the delivery company’s preliminary calculations did not work out: One bend turned out to be too narrow, forcing the driver to park his truck with the wheel bridge and notify the authorities.
However, with the help of a mobile crane, the problem was solved in just under an hour and a half: the bridge was lifted through the bend with heavy equipment and arrived a little later at its destination.
Bicycle concept in Bruck an der Mur
It will be mounted on the Murinsel in the course of Thursday. The bridge is one of the pivotal figures of the new bicycle traffic concept of the city of Bruck. In the future, it will be reserved for cyclists, while the Mursteg will be reserved for pedestrians only.
The federal state of Styria and the city of Bruck will invest a total of approximately 3.3 million euros in the bicycle concept in Bruck an der Mur by 2026.
