the mayor of BilbaoJuan Mari Aburto, this Thursday presented the municipal budget project for 2023, which will be another year-long highest in the history of the Bilbao consistory. The total amount will be €663.5 million4.8% more (30.3 million) than in 2022.

As the first mayor emphasized when presenting the accounts, it is “a good budget, responsible and realistic, with a strong social and public character, by and for an attractive, inclusive and sustainable Bilbao”.

Of the revenues, almost 6 out of 10 (386 million euros) will come from Udalkutxa, the municipal financing fund distributed by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia according to the collection, also a record this year. The rest is obtained from municipal taxes and levies (31.2%) and 10% from other income.

Aburto excludes another year of borrowing, so a credit operation of 26.9 million euros is being considered, which will be financed exclusively with remainders.

In the expenditure heading, the item is allocated to public basic services (sanitary, lighting, waste…) with 314 million euros compared to 299 in 2022. Municipal public investments amount to 117 million, while investments in the neighborhoods will amount to 53 million euros, in both cases it increases by three million compared to 2023 The personnel and personnel costs amount to 184 million euros.

The Bilbao City Council has a number of its most notable projects for next year, including standout, the works in the neighborhoods (included in the Auzokide Plan, with a budget of just over 13 million), the elevators or escalators for the upper neighborhoods (a post of almost seven million) or actions to prevent flooding in the Ribera de Deusto or to develop the Zorrozaurre Island project.

The bills are expected to be approved – the city council of PNV and PSE-EE has a majority – in the plenary on December 28.
