“Everyone will be punished” – Arrest for Putin advisers, Ukraine fires generals

Date:

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stripped two generals of their titles. “Now I don’t have time to deal with all the traitors. But gradually they will all be punished,” the Ukrainian president said in a video message. Russian President Vladimir Putin would also act against his own people.

The former head of the SBU secret service, Andriy Naumov, and the ex-head of the SBU for the Kherson region, Serhiy Kryvoruchko, are affected by the revocation of his title by Zelenskyy. Naumov had already been fired as head of the secret service last summer and is said to have fled abroad before the start of the war. According to the media, he is involved in smuggling and corruption at customs.

According to US government estimates, Russian President Vladimir Putin may have relieved some of his advisers from their duties and isolated himself during the war in Ukraine: “There is evidence that he fired some of his advisers or placed them under house arrest.” said US President Joe Biden at the White House.

Fighting continues
Despite the military de-escalation announced by Russia, fighting in Ukraine continues unabated. The defenders report successes: several settlements in the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson have even been recaptured. On Friday morning, Russia announced another ceasefire in disputed Mariupol. In addition, Ukrainian helicopters are said to have set fire to an oil storage depot near the Russian city of Belgorod.

Selenskyj admits problems
However, Zelenskyy also acknowledged problems on other fronts of the war. “The situation in the south and in Donbass remains extremely difficult,” said the head of state. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russia wants to maintain its military presence in eastern and southern Ukraine. The General Staff announced that attempts had been made to establish a government in the occupied areas of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts. In the course of that, it is expected that hostilities there will continue. Russia had announced that it had completely conquered the Kherson region.

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has now left for the capital on a trip. “On the way to Kiev,” the Christian Democrat wrote on Twitter late Thursday night.

In mid-March, the heads of government of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia traveled by train to Kiev to meet Zelenskyy.
