The deputy of the right-wing national party Rassemblement National (RN), who disrupted the speech of black deputy Carlos Martens Bilongo with a racist bickering (see video above), has now been hit with the toughest possible sanctions.
Grégoire de Fournas is not allowed to enter the National Assembly in Paris for 15 days. His MP salary will also be halved for two months. Except for the RN MEPs, all parliamentarians present from the other political groups voted in favor of the sanction proposed by the Council of Elders.
“Back to Africa”
On Thursday, as Martens Bilongo spoke in front of the lectern about a ship carrying refugees that had been blocked in the Mediterranean, De Fournas shouted: “Back to Africa”, members of the Left Party or the people on the ship. Martens Bilongo had immediately replied: “Not at all.” There was a great commotion in the parliament and many MPs shouted: “Out, out!”. The meeting was adjourned.
After the meeting, Bilongo spoke of a disgrace. “Today I was reduced to the color of my skin. I was born in France, I am a French Member of Parliament.” The interjection reveals the true face of the Rassemblement National.
Right MP feels misunderstood
The right-wing deputy spoke of a misunderstanding. With his squeak he was referring to the refugees on the boat and not to his fellow parliamentarians. There was no apology from De Fournas. Politicians from the other parties condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms. President Emmanuel Macron was also shocked.
