The mountains of Carinthia were already shrouded in a white veil on Friday morning. Frau Holle is visiting this winter for the first time and has provided a few centimeters of fresh snow – but that will only be for a short time.
The first snowflakes fell today at higher altitudes in Upper Carinthia. The Katschberg already presented itself in the morning in a beautiful white. A few hours later, there was even a chain requirement. “The snow line is currently 1600 meters. In Lower Carinthia, rain showers predominate,” said Michele Salmi, meteorologist at the Ubimet Weather Service.
“No normal temperatures”
Especially in the valleys of Drau and Gail, the amount of rain in the last twelve hours was significant at 30 liters per square meter. In the evening, another 20 to 30 liters should be added. “After that it calms down again and it dries up. In the coming days, a northern foehn will ensure mild temperatures,” reports Salmi.
In addition to a few patches of fog in the morning and a few cloud veils during the day, the sun will prevail over the weekend with temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees. The 14 degrees should be cracked again on Monday and Tuesday. “It remains above average mild. These are not normal temperatures for this time of year,” notes the meteorologist.
