Dramatic scenes on a tram in Germany: the heart of a baby from Vienna suddenly stopped beating – a brave passenger (33) saved the child’s life.
Desperate cries for help recently echoed one evening from a tram in Halle in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt: a panicked mother with a pram cried and begged for help. Her four-month-old baby had stopped breathing. As a result of a febrile convulsion, it turned out later.
“I Knew Something Was Wrong”
While some of the “Bim” passengers called 911 but looked on without doing anything, a brave prisoner took his heart in his hands. “I realized that something was not right. The mother tried to give the child something to drink and discovered that the child had no swallowing reflex and was no longer breathing,” said Hannes D., who lives in Halle, in an interview.
Shortly before the dramatic incident, the 33-year-old had been allowed or had to follow a first aid course from his employer. He didn’t hesitate for a second.
Together with his parents, an Iranian couple living in Vienna, the trainee jumped off the train at the next stop, laid the four-month-old boy on the floor and, with the presence of mind, began the CPR he had learned.
With success: “I didn’t have to apply artificial respiration because thank God the child showed reactions relatively quickly,” says Hannes D. According to the authorities, the baby is now well again.
“It seems logical to me that parents-to-be take a first aid course. After all, anyone can end up in such a situation,” said the aid worker.
