In a series of raids codenamed “Operacion Jardines” (Operation Gardens), Spanish police seized a total of more than 32 tons of marijuana at the end of October. The black market value of the drugs is at least 64 million euros, it was announced this weekend.
Spanish police say it is the largest amount of marijuana ever seized in the world. The packaged medicines have been found in a number of farms and production facilities. Nine men and 11 women, ages 20 to 59, were arrested.
According to the police, a single gang dried and packed the cannabis plants. They must be sent to Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The packaged marijuana equaled more than a million plants.
