The Transport Defense Platform, the state-level group of self-employed and small hauliers that declared the strike last March, has announced another indefinite strike starting at midnight this Sunday. On this occasion, however, the union of autonomous carriers of Hego Euskal Herria hiru does not support the strike and was called into the meeting by traditionassociation of carriers of Navarre, to determine its position, participation was very limited.

Manuel Hernández, president of the Platform for the Defense of Transport, has announced the results of the vote they held this weekend in their provincial delegations on the resumption of the strike. Last Saturday, the provincial deputies held a meeting where they analyzed the current situation in the sector, following the measures approved by the Spanish government in consensus with the majority organizations of carriers, which are part of the National Committee for Road Transport (CNTC). .

These measures include the new law to prevent carriers from operating at a loss or a new package of 450 million direct aid, in addition to the measures already approved in 2021 and in April 2022, such as the 20 cent discount, the ban on that drivers do the loading and unloading; the limitation to one hour of waiting time in the loading and unloading areas, the reinforcement of transport control or assistance with leaving the profession.

However, the Platform has continued to denounce the “non-compliance” by the shippers (customers of the carriers) with the law prohibiting working at a loss in the sector, pointing to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to deny this the Guardia Civil to monitor and denounce this non-compliance.

For this reason, the deputies decided last Saturday to resume the strikes, a decision voted on this weekend and endorsed by the members of the Platform. “The government must react quickly and face what is to come,” Hernández said at a press conference on Monday, stressing that the self-employed who make up the sector do not currently have the capacity to cope with the rise in costs. they are 30% higher. “We pay 40% less salary to our drivers, so insurance that covers the minimum is essential to avoid paying the amounts demanded of us,” he said.
