A 37-year-old American cryptocurrency investor was charged on Saturday, an Italian tourist kidnapped and abused for three weeks in a mansion in New York. The aim of torture was to blackmail the password of the Bitcoin Money Exchange (wallet) of the victim, said the public prosecutor.
The most important suspect and alleged accomplice were taken into custody on Friday after the 28-year-old man from Italy had succeeded in fleeing from the house in Nolita’s luxury New York district and to draw attention to a traffic police officer. A third person who was also reportedly involved in the crime has not yet been caught.
According to the criminal complaint, the Italian traveled to New York at the beginning of May and voluntarily went to the luxurious mansion with the investor. Tortured for weeks
