In the Upper Austrian animal paradise of Schabenreith, a Rottweiler bitch has been abandoned by her owners, neglected, unkempt and far too fat. Everything humanly possible was tried there to help the sick animal – unfortunately the help for the afflicted four-legged friend came too late.
The animal rights activists had only a few weeks to alleviate “Niki”‘s suffering and make her life easier. At 100 kilograms, she weighed more than twice as much as normal-weight Rottweilers. Gradual weight loss was paramount: with sufficient exercise and a diet she could already lose 15 kilos. On the occasion of her new start, the bitch also got a new name and would now be called “Easy”.
Rapid deterioration
The trusting bitch became very fond of her caretakers, who were all very happy with the progress of her diet. Unfortunately, “Easy” didn’t want to eat at all last week, her blood values deteriorated rapidly. Kidney and heart problems started and despite the vet’s best efforts a difficult decision had to be made.
Over the rainbow bridge
“Easy” lost the so hopeful fight and was put out of her misery. Doris and Harald Hofner of Tierparadies Schabenreith accompanied the dog to the end, giving her something she’s probably missed all her life: love, security, and encouragement.
Even when “Easy” fell into the loving hands of animal rights activists too late, she also got to see the good side of people before falling asleep forever.
