The cantonal police in Basel-Stadt have called on the population to avoid Mickey Mouse at the autumn fair. In the Swiss metropolis there are currently more and more complaints about “aggressive” behavior of people in cute costumes.
At the autumn fair in Basel, which takes place until November 13, many people are dressed up. At first glance, the costumers seem friendly, but often another face is hidden beneath them, as the police have since warned. Complaints continue to come from the public that Mickey Mouse is “pushy and aggressive”.
So they have to hold people and demand money after a forced photo, it says. They would also have to hand out balloons unsolicited and then also want to cash them in, as the Swiss newspaper “20 Minuten” reported on Tuesday.
Difficult for police to intervene
It is not so easy for the police to act against the costumed people, because intervention is only justified if the aggressive mice are caught begging. That is prohibited on the fairgrounds.
In any case, the management clearly advises visitors to “show no interest, do not shake hands with Mickey Mouse and keep their distance”.
