The Zestoa City Council indicated yesterday morning that with the data it had at the time, it could not support the Piaspe wind farm project of the Norwegian company Statkraft in this city. Hours later, however, the city council showed itself willing to analyze it.
In an interview with the Radio Euskadi program “Boulevard”, the mayor of Zestoa said, Mikel Arragic, is surprised by the media dimension the issue has acquired. On the one hand, he wanted to clarify the position of the municipal council: “We as a municipality have not distanced ourselves, we do have a critical attitude about this.” According to you, it will be inevitable to assume the need for high-intensity sustainable infrastructure (wind farms). It has also acknowledged that the fact that this company has put “the ability to socialize energy is not trivial”.
The Mayor of Zestoa sees it especially not feasible to transport all the material through the area (with 70-meter blades) to build the wind farm “without cleaning it up” or “changing the city planning” near San Juan.
Mikel Arregi has at least emphasized that Under the current legal framework, city authorities do not have the authority to “condition” a project with these characteristics as long as it meets all environmental standards.
