350 women and children – luxury hotel becomes accommodation for Ukrainian refugees

Date:

The private living situation of people who have fled Ukraine is deteriorating. Now 350 women and children have to be accommodated in the Hotel de France.

Russia’s terrible war of aggression against Ukraine continues unabated. There are currently 25,921 Ukrainians living in Vienna, but only a small proportion of them live in organized neighborhoods.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, 80 percent live in private apartments or houses. But private housing is also becoming increasingly critical due to inflation. The Hotel de France on Schottenring, which is currently vacant, now houses Ukrainian women and children.

80 women and children already called up
Under the patronage of Lifebrain CEO Michael Havel and his association “Wir hilft Schnell” in collaboration with the private foundation ATLAN, the owner of the property and the Arbeiter-Samariterbund, up to 350 women and children will be accommodated in the new refugee accommodation.

80 have already taken up residence in their rooms for the past few days. A usage contract has been concluded for nine months, with an option to extend for another three months. Even during the pandemic, the former luxury quarter acted as a quarantine hotel for tourists suffering from Covid-19.
