Climate change also brings stronger storms. It’s been over a month since mega-hurricane Ian swept through southwest Florida. The region around Fort Myers was especially hard hit – a local inspection “Krone” in the “Austrian nest”.
The catastrophe had already become apparent in the days before, but what landed in late September had not been seen in the region for a century. Accompanied by wind speeds of up to 250 km/h, “Ian” pushed a water roller up to 3.5 meters high. The hurricane’s eye alone was 50 kilometers in diameter. It took nine hours for the weather system to come through – nine hours of terror, destruction and death.
