Date:

In the fire drama in Khevenhüllerstrasse in Klagenfurt, in which one person was killed, the police assumed that the dead man was the 50-year-old tenant of the apartment. 40 residents are currently homeless, the apartment building is closed.

Dramatic scenes took place on Wednesday at the apartment fire on Khevenhüllerstrasse in Klagenfurt. The report of the fire drama is terrible. The 50-year-old tenant died in the flames. A DNA comparison is still necessary, according to the police. “But we assume that it is the tenant. We can exclude debts from third parties,” said police spokesman Dominik Sodamin.

Two cats rescued
As reported, the fire brigades had to evacuate 20 residents, ten of whom were taken to the Klagenfurt clinic with suspected smoke inhalation. Two cats were also rescued by firefighters. In addition, a woman with her two children had to be prevented from jumping. “She lived above the burned-out apartment and wanted to jump from the fourth floor in a panic,” said a witness. Fortunately, that could be prevented.

40 residents homeless
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The city of Klagenfurt has commissioned the civil engineering bureau Reinhold and Christoph Svetina to examine the building and its statics. The apartment building is closed by the police. 40 residents are homeless and had to be placed in alternative housing. Some residents stayed with acquaintances and friends.

Mayor Christian Scheider’s office is always available for questions. “We pull out all the stops to accommodate and help all residents,” emphasizes Scheider. The damage must be enormous. It is still uncertain when and whether the residents will be able to return to their apartments.
