The suspect was apprehended by a patrol and later taken to hospital with injuries and psychological examination.
A police officer was killed and another injured after a man stabbed the two officers yesterday near the Brussels-North station, located in the commune of Schaerbeek. After suffering the attack, around 7:15 PM, the two uniformed men called for backup, after which the suspect was arrested by a patrol and later taken to hospital with injuries to undergo a psychological examination. The Attorney General’s Office, responsible for terrorism cases, has taken charge of the investigation.
Apparently, the attacker allegedly stabbed the policeman who lost his life in the neck, while his partner was allegedly injured in the groin and was admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital in the Belgian capital last night.
The detainee appeared at a police station in Evere at noon yesterday, where he announced his intention to carry out an attack, according to the newspaper ‘Le Soir’. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo recalled on Twitter that members of the police “risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of citizens”.
