Happiness Tips – Back to Strength: Our Tired Society

Date:

The pandemic, the war, the fear of a climate collapse – all this makes you powerless. But there are ways to get strong again.

When the pandemic broke out, Andreas Salcher’s life took what he says today “rather negative turn”. His three professional pillars – book author, management consultant and teacher – soon almost disappeared completely.

Then, in early 2021, the tragedy: his father became seriously ill with Covid and was then treated in an intensive care unit for 27 days: “It was a terrible time.” Characterized by fear; of glimmers of hope repeatedly shattered by scathing reports from the hospital. Finally, on February 11, the obituary: “And I felt an immense sadness within me.”

In the weeks that followed, Salcher noticed more and more “that I had become extremely weak”. A state of mind where he “didn’t want to stay”. So he started tackling new projects like offering help to employees dealing with the home office through virtual workshops.

“Many people feel drained”
But having already overcome his own crisis, in March 2022 he discovered the suicide of a friend. The epidemic, the war in Ukraine, the impending climate catastrophe – the woman was broken by the suffering of the world, according to her close ones.

“And then I really became aware of the drama in our now. That many people – including those who were stress-resistant until recently – feel completely exhausted.” But there are ways to regain your strength.
