“Axie Infinity” is an online game reminiscent of Nintendo’s “Pokémon”: players breed, trade and train cartoon monsters – earning cryptocurrencies in the process. With this concept, a Vietnamese game developer temporarily attracted a million players – and the state hackers of North Korea, who stole $620 million in one of the largest crypto slumps of all time. It was the latest in a long line of cyber-raids used by Kim’s hackers to funnel money into the country for the missile program. And it shows that North Korean hackers have made terrifying progress since the program’s inception some 30 years ago.
