“Dismember” – hate message to Baerbock: Swiss in court

Date:

A Swiss student will soon have to answer to court because he verbally abused her in an e-mail to the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and even threatened her with murder. “Someone should cut you into pieces,” said the letter from the 39-year-old man with Russian roots, among other things.

The email reached Baerbock last year when she was still running for chancellorship as leader of the Green Party in the federal election campaign. The politician filed a report with the police. They asked their Swiss colleagues for support because the sender (“papierlischwizer”) suspected a Swiss connection.

In fact, the author was found in Zurich. According to a report in the online edition of “Blick”, the student has been sentenced to a fine of approximately 1,800 euros plus legal costs of approximately 800 euros.

Author would have psychological problems
Since the 39-year-old has appealed the verdict, the case is now before the courts. According to “Blick”, the suspect is known. His family environment emphasizes that he suffers from psychological problems.

The email from the Swiss received the most media attention, but was by no means the only hate message the 41-year-old was confronted with last year. According to the Advisory Center for Digital Violence – HateAid, Baerbock received a total of 5,524 tweets “with potentially offensive and hurtful language” during her election campaign.
