On Wednesday, further relief supplies arrived in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, which had been liberated from Russian occupation. These are not only medical products, but also food and hygiene products. About 80,000 of the former 280,000 people remained in the city despite the acts of war.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) supplied, among other things, medical products to treat 500 injured people, Geneva reported on Wednesday.
Material was also supplied to guarantee basic care for an additional 2,000 patients over the next three months.
A psychiatric hospital and the Ukrainian Red Cross received food and hygiene items. The ICRC also brought a water tanker to the city, as well as experts to assess the risks associated with unexploded ordnance.
Already supplied 6000 people on Monday
The biggest challenges are repairing the heating systems and electricity. This is also necessary to be able to put the installations for clean drinking water and waste water disposal back into operation. According to Ukrainian information, about 80,000 of the 280,000 people who used to live in the city have remained. A first UN convoy with food, drinking water and hygiene items arrived in Kherson on Monday. More than 6,000 people were supplied with it
Selenskyj in Kherson
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to the liberated city of Kherson in the south of the country on Monday – just days after the withdrawal of Russian troops. With his presence he wanted to show his personal support to the people of Kherson.
Under pressure from successful Ukrainian counter-offensives, the Russian army withdrew completely from the right bank of the Dnipro River last Friday. It also gave up the only regional capital it had captured since the start of the war in late February, Kherson.
