The “thing”, as the military commander of Lower Austria calls it, caused a stir – not only in military circles. As reported, Martin Jawurek is accused of sexually assaulting an employee. He was relieved of his duty. The “crown” reached the accused commander and talked to him about the cause.
“crown”: Mr. Brigadier, how are you after the serious allegations?
Martin Jawurek: I’m relatively calm about this. I know what I did or didn’t do – I rely mainly on the Austrian courts.
Do you think there is intent behind these allegations?
I can’t say that. It’s a mystery to me, but I don’t want to interpret anything in it either.
What’s next?
Legally, I am represented by a union lawyer and assume that everything can be clarified and corrected relatively quickly.
Are you currently emotionally distressed or worried in any way about how this will turn out?
Not really, but that’s why I hope or expect that legal action will be taken soon so that there will be clarity. Other than that I don’t want to add anything so as not to make things more complicated than they seem. I fully rely on Austrian law.
Incident outside working hours
The incident is said to have occurred outside office hours on November 8. A provisional suspension has been ordered and the Federal Disciplinary Authority will make a decision. Now it is the turn of justice, Friday a complaint was received at the public prosecutor’s office in St. Pölten. There is an exam.
It needs a legally binding outcome of proceedings or the legally binding closure of the investigation – “then we will monitor what happens,” said Armed Forces spokesman Michael Bauer. According to the Penal Code, a prison sentence of up to two years is possible within the framework of the standard on which the first information is based – the violation of sexual self-determination.
